The year 2010 seemed to leave out several good and bad things in Korean entertainment industry. this is about the best kpop or the worse.. There are several cases – the famous ones – that shook the ground of the Korea industry.
- The case concerning TVXQ (or DBSK, in case the name doesn’t ring a bell) separation. After the three members – Junsu, Micky, Jaejoong – sued their management, the SM Entertainment, to void their exclusive contract, they decided to start all over again in Japan, under new management and new name, the JYJ. The group got quite a success in Japan, but after a while, their Japanese agent, Avex, stated that they would stop all activities in Japan and started a world tour. JYJ had their first English album “The Beginning” and started their world tour, including the one in America.
Meanwhile, the remaining members of TVXQ are still under TVXQ name, which isn’t agreed by the fans.
- The fans of 2PM were shocked when the band’s leader, Jay Park, was terminated from the band. In a press conference on February 27, 2010, JYP representatives, 2PM members, and fans gathered together. The 2PM members admitted that the wanted Jay Park to be terminated. But it didn’t stop Jay Park’s move from coming back to Korean entertainment industry. He posted a video on Youtube and then started his first movie.
- K-pop popularity expanded to Japan and Philippines, with girl bands like KARA, SNSD, and 2PM debuted in Japan, as well as SHINee, Suju, BEAST, 4 minutes performed in Philippines and had very good album sales there.
- Celebrities scandals concerning drugs, booze, and military issue is quite a hit in 2010 Korean industry. Rapper MC has problems concerning military issue. The ones facing problem concerning drugs dealing law were Rapper Crown J and Kim Sung Min. Shin Jung Hwan couldn’t pay his gambling debt. Kangin was fined for DUI charge. Lee Hyori’s album was suspected to contain several plagiarized songs.
- SNSD was reported to be the most popular band in South Korea in 2010 period. The popularity chart was based on album selling and popularity among the fans. The girls didn’t only have great achievement in Koran entertainment industry but also in Japanese industry. They managed to win the Best New Artist Award in Japan Record Awards event.
