Every country must have its own culture, custom, and habit. That’s also the case in South Korea. In 1948, it was separated from North Korea and since then they have developed in different way. The people live has changed since industry and urbanization were present. The economy and lifestyle also changes, more concentrated in the capital city, Seoul.
South Korea has become a well developed country. The culture is a mix of modern and tradition one, with new development and technology as the main source, but with traditional values still holding and controlling the way people live. It’s often compared to Japan, whose culture also has the same impact from modernization.
There are basic cultures and values for Korean, such as:
- Family always comes first.
- That’s why family’s welfare is more important than individual or single welfare.
- Family members are bound to each other because one act from a member will reflect and take effect to the others.
- They have Confucian teaching tradition, which is a belief on ethics and behaviors that put forward people’s relationship between one another and their obligations based on that relationship.
- They often stress on honor, loyalty, and respect for seniority and age.
- It’s always better to maintain peace and comfort in their surrounding.
